Abstract

Creating places is of utmost importance in today’s towns and cities. Buildings that connect with community and memory are preferable to modernist objects that disturb the existing surroundings. Each new building should reflect a concern for scale and beauty that has been shared for thousands of years.

Rachamankha Hotel was built using only natural materials, as was done in the past. A mixture of lime, a durable traditional material, was used on the walls in order to obtain the desired texture and color. Recycled wood was used for the whole project, and its weathered surfaces added charm to the building. The terra-cotta roof and floor tiles were locally made.
