AbstractThe conservative weekly Berlin Newspaper Junge Freiheit was intrigued by Krier’s pun in a 1993 Die Welt article. Following the then official cancellation of the Berlin Castle reconstruction project, Krier had quipped that Germany had to continue doing architectural penance for the Nazi sins. The immense popular success of reconstructions currently being completed in Berlin, Potsdam, Dresden, Frankfurt, despite regular political and professional sabotage, mark indeed a historic break with modernist post war architectural austerity. They are clarion calls for a radical change in established architectural policies and education.
